  1. Very little chance of winning medals at this olympics.

The Thais have sent 47 athletes to the olympics.  Of the 47 only two are boxers (Angkhan Chomphuphuang and Somjit Jongjohor).

They have 15 track and field athletes, and 4 badminton players.

The boxers don't pose any threat for a medal, and it is my understanding that the weight lifters are not expected to advance past the prelims.

Best chance for a medal will be bronze in weightlifting. Anything else will be considered a surprise.

That said, Thailand will have a few surprises, and finish the games with 3 medals- 1 silver and 2 bronze.

I think Tamerine will shock the Olympics and Tennis worlds by winning a silver.  She has looked great leading up to the olympics, winning her first ever grass court title then following it up with a semifinals loss to Williams at Wimbledon.

The track and field athletes won't fare too well, and the Thai swimmers pose no threat at all.

The only other pleasant surprise I could see would be the badminton team taking a silver or bronze.

Edit:  Manus Boonjumnong and Pawina Thongsuk are not on the team, and surprisingly enough Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon is in contention for a weight-lifting medal at 53 kgs, though it is likely a silver or Bronze as S Korea looks to have the gold wrapped up.

Edit II: I was wrong in spectacular fashion! The S Korean who coming into the games expecting to set a new WR looked very uncomfortable, and Prapawadee looked like she could have set the WR had she not tweaked her arm on the last attempt!

I have seen the draws in Tennis.... scratch my prediction for Tamerine.... I will say, this might be the only medal for Thailand.

  2. I'll go with a gold in women weight lifting first and then at least one medal in boxing maybe not a gold.

looks like I am right on the first part, now just wait for the boxers.

  3. Probably men's boxing where they have a few boxers that are expected to do well. Thailand's women's weightlifters are also expected to do well, one of the girls, Pawina Thongsuk is the defending gold medalist in her weight class. Thailand won gold medals in both sports in the last Olympics.

  4. As usual the best chances are in the Boxing &.Women's

Weightlifting .Thailand is  pinning hope on Manus Boonjumnong

    & Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon.

    Good luck to them.
