It's like the minor leagues for professional basketball players. If they play well they often get a chance at coming up to the NBA. Each NBA franchise has a designated farm team, however to call those players up they need to have them under some type of contract. The D-League used to be a joke -- but after producing some great talents like Ramon Sessions, it has come a long way and teams are scouting the league on a regular basis to see who they can call-up to help.
