  1. Extra powerful serve like Roddicks' kick serves.

That will result in an ace & a point, so your opponent won't be able to make a return shot back to ya.

Go practice it daily, it will surely add another level to your games.

  2. I use a flat serve for my first serve (190kmh-1) and a kick serve for my my second serve to make sure it goes in (120kmh-1).

Sometimes i'll use a slice serve to change things up a bit especially on the dew laden grass courts. my first serve is at 62% accuracy and kick serve is at 90% accuracy.

  3. There are four types of service, not three.  The fourth is very painful and is rarely used for fear of hurting the arm.   This is the 'reverse spin'.    The ball is hit as a slice, but INSIDE the ball, not outside, as is the normal slice.   The serve behaves very much as a left-hander's sliced serve.

I believe that J. Kramer, the architect of serve-volley tactics, had a fifth serve.   That was the reverse Kick service.   It kicked to a right-hander's forehand!

The orthodox slice,  bounces in the same direction as it swings, and lower than if there was no spin.

The Kick service (a type of topspin, in reality) swings the same way as a slice, but bounces in the opposite direction, and quite a lot higher than if there was no spin.   (There is a special version of this serve known as the Lob Service.  It clears the net by as much as 3 metres,  and carries so much topspin that it lands in the service court.   It is used when a player is very nervous, and it helps the player regain timing as the ball is in contact with the racquet strings for a long time)

The flat service usually carries a bit of slice for accuracy, but it is basically used for serving fast, unplayable deliveries.   A rather inaccurate serve when there is a tense situation, and really good players often have several types of flat serve.

  4. you should make sure u have them all. flat for 1st. spin for 2nd. kick on clay. and mix it up

  5. Well it all depends on your taste and power.

For Power and accuracy and to get it in I would use a mixture or spin and kick this is how I use spin in my serve.

    Cheers Gordo
