  1. The city of the most famous lovers in history: Romeo and Juliet. But Verona has much more to offer. The city, also known as Urbs Nobilissima, is the second biggest city in Veneto (after Venice). It is one of the cities that has better preserved its artistic heritage in Italy

  2. Amazing place - it's like stepping back in time

A taste of what life must have been like hundreds of years ago - and all done with the usual Italian flare and style

A wonderful city to visit - don't miss it if you get the chance

  3. I actually really liked it....It had a nice atmoshpere, escpeically around the  "colloseum" they have there ( which has operas in the summer time)...with all the cafes and people strolling around...I felt very relaxed there and enjoyed my time there.

There is Juliettes Balcony ( not the "real" one, but peopel go there and its nice)....and there is a lovely garden...I'm trying to remember the name. A lady I knew had photos of it in winter with icicles hanging from the fountains, I went in April and it was lovely and peaceful......drat can't remember the name.

Thats the main things I remember...I do remember a Roman wall surrounding the city to that you pass under several times on your travels.

  4. I lived in Italy for a year. I travelled to Milan, Rome, Venice, Florence, Verona and many more citites. But after Rome, Verona was my favourite. It's got the beautiful nature mised with the Italian architecture and romance. There's great views from the hilltop and an ancient history. I really reccomend it. I had an amazing time there.

  5. Beautiful city, quaint unspoilt architecture with a vibrant shopping city centre. Lovely to walk around in the evening especially near the river looking up at the old castle on the hill. Excellent range of restaurants and bars for nightlife. For the north of Italy this is one of the must see locations and seems to be a well kept secret as it isn't too touristy.

  6. I live about an hour south of Verona and spend a lot of time there. The old town section is quite large and includes a small Roman Colosseum (the Arena) that is still used for opera performances and concerts through the summer and a Roman theater where Shakespeare is performed. During the winter, there is a huge exhibit of nativity scenes from around the world in the Arena and a skating rink set up in Piazza Bra. There are piazzas with frescoed palazzos, the tombs of the old rulers, and the castle along the river which now is a museum which often houses exhibits worth visiting. There are also many interesting old churches. This is all combined with modern fashion and shopping.

The interesting thing about Verona is that the most popular attractions are made up. It's possible to visit Juliet's house (and get your photo taken on the balcony), Romeo's house and the tomb of Juliet in the church where Romeo and Juliet were married. Although Romeo and Juliet are fictional characters, Verona did this in a nice way. The building for Juliet's house is typical of the period when the play is set. They had to add the balcony in the 1930's though. People write notes for Juliet and leave them at the house or in the tomb. There are always crowds of people at Juliet's house, but many people miss the other related spots including the place in Piazza del'Erbe where Romeo & Juliet first meet under the dinosaur rib.
