Whats Wrong With My Goldfish??.......?

Question

1 of my goldfish (i av 6) keeps putting his dorsal fin up and straight when ever other fish goes near him or he goes near others.

hes ok with everything else, he never bites other fish, hes fine with the feedin, and he never chases other fish etc..

he is'nt ready for mating (white dots on his gills) and there is'nt a sign that he is ready....

no fish is scared of him

im just abit concernd

plz help ....

Well if he isn't showing any physical signs of illness or anything like that then I wouldn't be too worried. I've observed this behavior before between my fantails before we moved them to different tanks. I think it's a dominance thing. I've looked for information on goldfish flaring fins and I've found nothing. So I'm not too concerned especially since mine weren't attacking each other. I sometimes see my ryukins in the 50 gallon do it too.

well my goldfish (i have 7 but i keep the bad *** seperated)use to do that when i use to put my bad *** goldfish with them i can only think its some kind of defense mechanism or warning it might be hes afraid of the other fish or they might bully him

or just a shoot in the dark something might be wrong with your water

I can't think of anything that would be causing a goldfish to do that except for that it might just be how your goldfish is. Your goldfish might be doing that just because he wants to. good luck with your fish keeping =)

I'm sorry i have a goldfish who is very sick so i separated her from the other fishes
