Whats a Chicken Roost???

Question

I house a pair of chickens and have a run with food water obviously and nest boxes but i dont know what a chicken roost is or what chicken roosting is??? please help!

Roosting is when they sleep at night. They need to have a perch either poles, bars or a thick branch well off the ground to sleep on. Hen's feet are not designed to be on the floor all night. They would be up in a tree in the wild. They need a perch about 2-3ft off the ground ideally.

A Chicken Roost is what Chcikens root on at night. It is mostly in coops a wooden rod that runs across the coop from one side to the other. Usually its 2 feet or so off the ground.

Chcikens roost at night because htey feel safe up high. Some if they dont have a roost roost on a nesting box or even int eh trees.
