  1. Digital Single Lens Reflex: what happen is that the light/image goes through the lens and hit a mirror and then the image sensor as you take the picture. The difference is what we see in the eyepiece/viewfinder is exactly what the lens is seeing. Where as in most Point and Shoot camera, you are just looking approximately at the subject - what you see is not exactly what the camera is seeing whether in size or focus - looking at the eyepiece (you have to rely on the LCD to see exactly what the lens is seeing in a Point and shoot).

Most people would say that DSLR are professional camera. It's only half true in a way. Professionals prefer DSLR but amateurs using it don't make them professional. Further more, what we considered professional camera are the one that runs to about $4000 and up type of camera. But anyone who gets paid using a camera whether it's a Point and Shoot, low end DSLR to expensive DSLR or SLR, are considered professional. Low end DSLR: Nikon D40/D60/D80, Canon XTi/XSi or Sony DSLR A 100 or Olympus Evolt E510 or  any camera that is below $2000.

There are also DSLR-like Point and Shoot camera. They are shaped of a DSLR but do not have the capability that a real DSLR have.

The advantage of a DSLR is that their lens are interchangeable to suit what the photographer needs -  like a macro, telephoto, or fish-eye lenses. Point and shoot camera has a fixed lens although, some has macro and a good telephoto lenses.

Then there is the image sensor that record the image: a 6 mp DSLR has about the size of 12 mp Point and shoot cameras. So the DSLR has a larger sensor than regular digital cameras. Bigger sensor, more details of the image/subjects.

FYI The Corpse's Bride was shot with a Canon DSLR rather than a movie or video camera.

  2. DSLR stands for "digital Single Lens Reflex". A Single Lens Reflex camera is a type of camera that incorporates a prism and mirror system inside the viewfinder that allows the photographer to compose his or her image more accurately than with other types of cameras. Single Lens Reflex cameras are used by professionals and amateurs because they allow for maximum manual control. Unlike point-and-shoots which typically have minimal control, Single Lens Reflex cameras allow you to focus manually and select the shutter speed. The system of interchangeable lenses available to SLR camera bodies also allow the photographer to control the focal length and aperture (lens opening).

A dSLR is an SLR body with some modifications, including a digital sensor in place of 35mm film. It's basically the digital equivalent.

    Some dSLR models are:

  3. A professional single lens reflex camera.

  4. Its Like A Professional Photographers Camera :D

  5. A DSLR Is A

    Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera.

It has twice the surface area on the sensor than a point and shoot camera, thus, the images are naturally sharper, and you get more film like color rendition.

the advantage of a digital SLR and an SLR in general is that you can alter/manipulate the quality of the images with purchasing different lenses. Such lenses are macro lenses, normal lenses, telephoto lenses, and the list goes on.

that's a more textbook definition for a digital SLR camera.

an example of a digital SLR is this:

this is a more professional one, but they start at 377$ body only, and escalate to around 35,000$ for the hasselblad camera, which is the absolute professional camera, with ALOT of megapixels.
