Whats a Mason? Some kind of secret cult?

My son is called Mason hes 4. Is there somekind of secret cult called the Masons? If si what are they all about?

Im just curious.

the word mason means an engineer, there is a secret brotherhood "the free masons" its believed to be the biggest of them all and the most controlling, i dont know alot about it, no body does, many big society characters were in that "kings, actors, millionaires", it's quite weird, all i know is what i read in wikipedia, google for free masons instead of masons alone you should be finding some stuff

If you didnt already catch it, mason is short for Freemason. It is a society mostly consisting of aristocrats, very rich and famous people. George Washington was a Freemason. It is not secret. Its open and legal. The freemasonry started during biblical times. King Solomon was building his temple, when one of his workers was murdered for his ideas. The quote,"Who will help the widow's son?!" is a legendary quote used by masons when in need of help.

Sort of. They are Freemasons which is a group of men who have secret signs and handshakes etc. There have a hall where they meet, and various items of regalia that they wear when they are being formal. They have dinner dances with chicken on the menu and support one another in business etc and do good works. They have their own school and a lot of policemen belong.

My guess is you are talking about the freemasons (which use the term mason interchangeably).

it a secret society that built up our nation. they had some of our greatest leaders (george washington and ben. franklin). the money we use has their symbols (the pyramid, the Eagle with the 13 arrows, 13 leaves on the olive branch, and 13 stars above its head) it is believed that they are striving to to make the perfect nation, perfect the us and build a great empire (by changing foreign governments to more friendlier ones toward the us) so basically they are the leaders behind the scene/curtain (kinda like how it is in metal gear solid) and manson is short for freemason

A mason is a person who works with stone, brick, ceramics.

The Masons, are a group, not really secret since most groups have open membership and some have recruitment, which are based on christianity and/or judiasm.  in most cases, it's a boys club who get together and pal around.  in other cases it is a charity organization.

lately, there has been a lot of unbased claims that they're a secret, sometimes satanic, organization which holds secrets or great knowledge and is currently guiding the world's events.  Da Vinci Code, Illuminati, National Treasure, are just some examples.
