What is a recall?

Whats that disease that starts with a L, does it have something to do with the meat?

How did this happen? Bacteria?

  1. it means that meats are being taken from stores and retailers and are being destroyed due to a product that is contaminated with a bacteria or something that could harm us.

    It is a bacteria called listeriosis which is commonly found in uncooked foods and the recall is mostly with maple leaf products that were contaminated due to one factory that was accidentally cross contaminated with the bacteria.


  2. A meat recall means that when the government inspected the meat and found a problem with it. So all the meat is recalled (returned to the meat packager) and will end up destroyed.

    It's usually e.Coli bacteria that is in the meat. This can happen in a few ways. When they slaughter the animal they are supposed to do it correctly so that the fecal matter in the intestines does not get onto the meat. That can contaminate it. People not washing hands before returning to work does the same thing. Just like at a restaurant. It might have even had the e.Coli before it was slaughtered, which could come from what it's eating.
