American Express, Mastecard and Visa are the main organisations that offer easy access to comercial credit in the for of  a card.

Same thing; different arrangements and commercial conditions.

You'll find that some places will accept one, two or all three of the cards.  So saying AMEX (As American Express can be know) is not that common,

They are credit cards. You use them to buy things then a bill comes at the end of the month and you have to pay it. They get people into trouble because you keep spending and spending money you don't have.
