I have narrowed it down th the Samsung LN32A330 with a contrast ratio of 8000:1 or the LG 32LG30 with a contrast ratio of 12000:1. They both are LCD 720p, the price is a 5 dollar diff.

  1. Depends how they were measured.

If they are BOTH true contrast or BOTH dynamic  contrast, then 12,000:1 is better.

But if 8,000:1 is true contrast and 12,000:1 is dynamic, then 8,000:1 is better.

Best go to a store and see for your self. Contrast is just one variable when reviewing a TV.

  2. Can't say exactly, these contrast ratio numbers a just marketing hype, check the reviews. Your eyes are different than mine, so we will each like something different. You really just need to see them in person though. And LCD looks pretty bad in terms of picture anyway, buts thats another story. I am a big fan of the Samsung but the A330 line is on the lower end, you will get better picture quality out of the 550 series.

Check out this link for a great explanation of the truth about contrast ratio: http://www.carltonbale.com/2007/01/the-t...

  3. Simple answer: 12000:1 is better than 8000:1 (as both are rated at dynamic contrast ratio's)

My advise? Try to watch both with the same exact DVD player or gaming machine to see which one looks and/or performs better to you.

I have a Samsung and know for a fact that they're awesome. I have no experience with LG - so I can't honestly say pertaining to that name brand.

I hope this has been a little help. :)
