I am getting married in a year. Well in May... so in 9 months!

I wanted to know if anyone knew of a cheap way to cater a wedding of 200 guests. I don't know anyone or anyone who knows some one who caters. I definatly do not want any family to cook. I want them to enjoy the party too!

Any ideas??

  1. You could do lots of hor d'orves instead of a full meal.  People will have a lot of different variety to chose from and still get full.  You can do that pretty cheaply though grocery stores, Costco, etc.  Buffets are often cheaper than sit down dinners as well, so that may be something to look into.  Also, pricing depends on what you get.  I bartended a wedding where they did a Nacho bar for 250 people, it was pretty inexpensive and people had fun with it.  :-)

  2. bulk cheaper items like pastas , salads and breads can sometime be cheaper then carving station.  then set up as  buffet style.

  3. Many grocery stores offer catering of deli items.  Stuff like deli meat and cheese trays, etc., but some will also do more elaborate stuff as well.  You can also call up restaurants, many of them offer catering at reasonable costs.  I'm not sure what you're looking to spend on food, but realize it's going to be one of your biggest expenses.

    Good luck!

  4. Try a local restaurant. You'll probably need to hire servers, but they can normally provide food.

  5. Order pizza and salad for all.  Have beer and wine and soft drinks only.

  6. I too think you should do sandwiches from a grocery store. If this is not what you want I would look to see if there is a local college who has a culinary arts program and see if they could have the opportunity to cater the wedding. It will give them experience and also help with their resume.
