  1. Will you be getting a second rat to introduse to him? How old is you rat?

I wouldnt advise a hamster ball, as rats are very intelligent and get bored easily also rats grow quite quickly so you would be wasting your money, there are many thing s you can make or buy.

    Milk bottle hideout

So easy! Take a big 6 pint plastic milk bottle. Cut the neck end off and voila… a little rattie hideout that can be stuffed with shredded paper. Check the cut edge for any sharp bits which can be filed with an emery board.

    Toilet roll cracker

Again this takes seconds to throw together. Take a toilet inner, and a few rattie treats, plus a sheet of A4 paper. Fill the roll with treats, and wrap around with the paper, twisting the ends to make a cracker. Alternatively, wrap the treats loosely in kitchen roll and stuff into the inner.

    Toilet roll piñata

Take one toilet roll tube. Make a small hole in the middle of the tube with sharp scissors. Thread some string through the hole and knot the string on the inside. Fold one end of the tube into the tube opening so it seals off that end. Fill the tube with ratty treats and close of the other end of the tube. Tie the string to the top of the rat cage.

    Box of treats

A variation of the piñata. Take any small box and fill with treats. Close. Either simply offer to the rats, or hang from the cage bars.

    Egg box delights

Take a clean empty egg box, and fill each compartment with a small amount of a different food (e.g. pieces of fruit and vegetables, cooked pasta, chicken, broken cream crackers). Close the lid and give to rats.

    Here's few examples. =]

Have a look on google and see what you can come up with, just be safe. =]

  2. well if you only just got him then he might not be used to his surroundings just yet, just kinda put your hand into the cage to get him used to you. when you've got him out offer him treats so he associates you with something good. and balls of cling film or something to play with him.

  3. you could buy a ball like i bought for my hamster and it can run around in your house or hold it and set it in a box and pet it and maybe get a little brush like i dew for my hamster just get to know your rat better but be careful they tend to bite ok hope my question helped thanks.

  4. the most fun thing to do with a rat ?lets see, if you have a cat you could give the cat a treat,a nice juicy rat,no cat;how bout a dog,or your neighbors, dog .last time my cat caught a rat I had a great time watching. It was kind of like a nature show on wild kindom.

  5. Give him time to settle in first. Tips and information on trust training:

He will definitely need a same s*x friend. I'd recommend getting another rat from a reputable breeder or rescue as pet store rats are often ill or, in the case of females, pregnant. Plus, you don't want to support pet stores and their mills or backyard breeders:
