Oh my dear goodness, you can so not go past neopets I owned 3 accounts and played for almost a year, it was endless fun.

There was a virtual dog show aswell, I used to play it, but I can't seem to find it, you joined in competitions/shows/championships chose your breed, fed your dog and trained it.

Try Neopets.  I loved this site when I was a kid, and I still bum around sometimes when I'm bored with my old account. :P
