I really need to get a job this winter and i would like to do something other than working at a grocery store because that's what everyone does and there are no openings in my area anyway.

  1. same with me (just im turning 16) pretty much any job you get at this age will be minimum wage. i dont wanna work at a grocery store either for the same reason. i wanna work somewhere easy and simple as my first job so i was thinking ice cream places or subway. those are very simple. fast food restraunts are good too. you can also see if you can be a bus boy or hostess and work your way up to waiter or waitress because if your good at that you can get a lot of tips on top of your minimum wage

  2. I don't know what kind of pay you consider decent, but at your age, most things don't pay much. There's acting, if you can get the parts. Modeling teen clothes for ads, if you have the looks.

Peer tutoring can pay decently, if you have the knowledge. Or tutoring kids, since adult tutors can cost a lot, and if you're good at teaching reading and math, you could build a nice part-time business.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Start by looking in the field you want to work in. For example, if you want to work in sports, consider working at a sporting goods store, as a cleanup boy for a team (there's a name for this, I can't think of it), in a bowling alley, at a skating rink, etc.

You already know that most stores and fast food places hire teens.

Your school probably has a jobs office. Ask in the principal's office if there is one, or even a file of jobs. Often people call high schools when they need babysitters, dog walkers, odd jobs, and student help.

  3. i was a lifeguard and it paid very well versus what my friends were making. or see if you can work at a coffee shop. money plus tips.

  4. Offer to shovel or snowblow your neighbor's drives and sidewalks.

    Work at a video store.

Work at a vet or humane shelter.

Work at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.
