Ive done cross country for a year and im going back to it after a year of football since im not the best and im going to a new school. Ive got 20 full days starting tomorrow before school starts and I still run pretty well (best mile time = 5:45) and can run about 2 miles before stopping to catch my breath, but not at a 5:45 pace. I want to blow everyone away so I can impress my fellow runners and make some fast friends.

Is there anything I can do to train before the sport starts?

  1. To be blunt, run 5k's to get the jist of your current status and time. Note your splits. Once you have that oyu can train based on what you want to do this season, your goals. I suggest doing 4+ miles a few times a week, and days you don't run that long, take a break and only go for 2 miles.

I'm just going by some of my own experiences.

  2. If your in shape, start hitting a minimum of 4 miles a day. Then go with the pattern of long run, then short easy run. Stay within the 10 to 4 mile runs. Start making routes aroung your house to do over the summer and name them. Try to estimate how long they are too. That just gets yourself into a good routine and so you're presice. Eat lots of carbs, noodles, bread, and all that good stuff. Drink lots of water and gatorade. And please make sure you stretch alot before and after your runs to prevent simple, yet serious injuries. And you don't have to be fast to make friends! Just be friendly, and introduce yourself, and you'll be good to go! Good luck with the social stuff, and I hope you tear it up on those coarses at your new school! peace.
