  1. sony

  2. 1080p is a waste of money for screens under 46". It's a marketing ploy. Most mere mortals cannot tell the difference between 1080p and 720p/1080i in a screen size under about 46".

The top two brands for 32" and 26" LCDs, for BOTH performance and reliability, are Panasonic and Sony. If too expensive, look at the very good Toshiba followed, perhaps, by Sharp and Samsung. In this small size you are limited to LCD, except one maker of cheap c**p that now apparently has a 32" plasma.
