  1. Yep that is a good time.  Anything in the low to mid 5's is a good 40 time for a lineman.

  2. Anything under a 5 minute 40 is awesome.  5.10 is a good time too, but only for an offensive lineman.  For a defense, those times would only be acceptable for a defensive tackle.  Defensive ends must be able to run a 40 under 5 minutes.

For a lineman, any time over 5.25 and there needs to be some other compensation like size and strength.  Given your current size, I would recommend trying to bulk up a bit if you want to stay as a lineman.  You'll want to aim for an additional 10 lbs of lean muscle each year as you progress into college ranks.  Your transition to the next level will depend on your size unfortunately.  You might need to switch positions at that time.

  3. You're a lineman -

you won't be running 40 yards ANYWHERE at any time.

What you need is explosivity and power - exploding off the line of scrimmage and blocking the right Defender in the right direction for 5 seconds.

Now when your body goes into this last major growth period...perhaps next year...and you drop a little weight...build more muscle...if you should choose to play defense...breaking 5 flat will be important.

    Good luck.
