Whats a good bait for a wasp/hornet/ annoying bug trap?

I made a homemade trap out of a 2 liter bottle and don't know what would be a good attractant to wasps, hornets, or japanese beetles... any ideas? Ive been using sugar water but so far the kill count is at one ant haha. Any ideas?

Wasps and hornets like smelly rotting lunch meat, like a dead animal  would seem to a stupid insect of no use on the planet.

Any kind of raw meat works for wasps, but what attracts Japanese beetles is the color yellow. Don't know why. Good luck!
