If you want a modern book that is easy to read try Harry Potter, Cloud Atlas, His dark Material, or Watership Down.

An older book that is quite witty and humorous, try Three Men In a Boat, The Jeeves Series, Don Quixote, or anything by Oscar Wilde

If you want a more serious book, try Never Let Me Go, 100 Years of Solitude, The Road, Blindness, or Waiting

Okay, you're an adult now, so i recommend Rose Madder by Stephen King. The story basically tells about how a woman who was being beaten by her husband for ten years finally got up enough courage to leave him when she was doing the laundry and saw a drop[ of blood on the sheets. She then leaves her life behind, not letting anyone know where she was going and found a shelter in a town called Daughters & Sisters. She eventually gets a job as an audiobook reader, meets a nice guy and things start to turn around. one day she goes in a pawn shop to find out the resale value of her wedding ring and a painting catches her eye of a woman in a rose madder. she buys it and not long after, she starts to notice funny things start to happen, like crickets chirping in her house coming from the painting, and the woman in the painting begins to move.

But little does she know that her husband Norm is on her tail and is catching up to find her.
