  1. if its  a "304" or "305"  its a good deal. they usually run 200-300 for a mint machine. make sure you have all the accessories, but they can be found here and there.

singer is the best for heavy to normal use. brother is another good brand.

    My wife is a seamstress.

  2. Singer's made some nice machines -- but they've made more dogs lately than nice ones.  What model machine are you looking at?  If it's a Touch 'n Sew, then you probably shouldn't pay more than $75 or so for a freshly serviced machine.  If it's an old black Singer, then it's a reasonable  price for something like a Model 201 or 15, a great price for a 221, and a too-high price for pretty much everything else.  Too high for a 301, 400-series or 500-series (although these are all good machines) unless they're in great shape with ALL the accessories.  Once you get past about 1970 or so, you've got to be really careful with Singers.  The nylon gears they began using about that time are about rotted away right now (although they can be replaced).

On the other hand, if this is a machine from a sewing machien shop and they've serviced it and will warrant it, then it might be worth overpaying a bit for the peace of mind.

  3. singers are great i have two..... you can get a good one for that price
