  1. any breed is a good cat. go to your local shelter and meet some of their cats, adopt the one that you fall in love with! even if it is an older kitty, they still need homes too and they sometimes make the best cats because you know what you are getting into1

  2. Any kind of cat is a good breed to get, it just depends on what your looking for.  Certain cats make better family pets while others make better lap-cats, and do better in an environment with little people in it.  It also depends on how big you want your cat to get, because some breeds, like the Maine Coon, can get up to twenty five lbs.  Even a mixed breed cat is a good option, because they are just as lovey-dovey.

  3. anything with long hair

  4. The breed doesn't matter. Get a loving cat from your local shelter. It will be a better pet than anything you can get from a breeder. You can sometimes find some exotic ones at the shelters too.

I got a Turkish Angora for $50 at our shelter. They are talkative and very kitten like throughout their lives. And very lovely in appearance.

I would recommend against getting a persian or persian mix because they tend to have sinus issues which can be very expensive. But if you're willing to pay, they are wonderful cats too.

I don't know really. I love all cats. The best cat I know is a regular domestic long hair.

  6. Maine Coons are my favorite!

    Good Luck!

  7. Depends on your personality and the time to have to spend on it.  If you have time to brush the cat, get a long haired - if not - get a short haired.  Do you like cats that are laid back and make you laugh?  Maine Coons are great - I call them dogs in cat suits.  My Russian Blue makes me laugh all the time, except when he sings all night.  My Himmie is just pretty - not good for much else. She doesn't play or anything, just sits and looks pretty.  Go to a website that helps pick out cats depending on what you and your family like.

  8. All cats are great breeds. It rather depends on your preferences and the time you are willing to dedicate to your cat.

Adopted cats with no breed at all are the best choice for most people. They are not expensive (you only pay a small adoption fee), they are generally healthier than bred cats (because of their genes) and they are easier to take care of and they are usually spayed or neutered and vaccined in advance (Plus you are doing a great deed in adopting).

If you are interested in breeds, nonetheless, short-hairs are easier to take care of. They have no need to be constantly brushed and don't seem to suffer from so many skin, respiratory and visual conditions as long-haired cats. I wouldn't recommend "no-hair" cats like sphinxes as they require a lot of care and will only thrive in warm environments.

Also, no japanese bobtail or manx, as they suffer from many spine problems.

Other than that, most cats are easy to take care of. They usually take care of themselves and don't need daily walks. Seeing as they sleep 18 hours a day, they can spend long periods of time by themselves. However, if you are a busy person I would recommend getting the most detached and less affectionate cat you can find, as most cats are fond of constant petting and company. Also, it would probably be best for you if you find a 1yr + cat. A kitten requires a lot of care and attention.

  9. Siamese...they are loyal to ONE person

and NOT a long haired one... you will have hair clumps all over the house when it gets hot... you have to brush them and some get clumps.

  10. I never met a Manx that didn't have a good personality and they're definitely conversation starters as they are tailless. Despite this unique feature, they're easily found and usually free or cheap, as they cannot be bred as a purebreed (the gene that makes them tailless also makes it impossible for them to breed together - they must breed with a "tailed" cat). Check craigslist in your area and I'm sure you'll find one or a litter to choose from.

I would, though, avoid a long haired cat, as I have several and they're very hard to maintain..Although it is fun to give them funny haircuts. My one short haired cat is very, very low maintenance.
