Some of things one must consider with first time drivers; safety, insurance and economy.  Airbags are essential and limited passenger compliment.  I like two seaters if possible with manual transmission.  Teaching them can be trying and painful, but beneficial  in the long run.  Economy is today a must since the parent is supplying most of the fuel.  Try to have at least one car in your fleet with no collision insurance so your new driver can be assigned to.  Expect a shock at the insurance rates.  

I like miatas.put a roll bar in, ( not a style bar).  They are a foot shorter than a civic and 100 pounds lighter.   You can pick up older models at reasonable prices.

I first learned in a Suzuki Swift. It was a good car and very easy to drive. As used cars go, anything small, preferably a hatch, which has good manuverability, well connected (so you can feel what you are doing) and great visiblity. You'll know why when you start driving!

I would prefer used Honda or Toyota.

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty, not luxury looking...

cheap, safe, automatic, fuel effieicnt, and (for insurance reasons) 4 door and slow lol.

im 18 and have a camaro.. its a v6 and i have the bare legal limiton insurance.. i pay 165 a month. for a toyota carolla i would prolly pay lik 80 lol.

this was my first car and i race and peel out and do donuts and all kinds of dangerous stuff. its fun as h**l but if i was a parent i would not let my kid have this car lol

Toyota Matrix has everything you could ask for at a reasonable price including fairly good gas mileage.
