Whats a good college course to do in america for someone who wants to be a filmaker or work in television?

basically im just finishing my third year at college in england studying media studies and im looking to go to school in america. the only problem i have found is that in america a media studies course is different to an english one and doesnt include what i am all ready learning and what i want to continue learning. basically i want to learn the film making process or television making process, theory and practical work.

before anyone mentions it i do not want to go to film school as i want to learn a broader scale of the subject.

any help would be greatly appreciated
