Whats a good excuse to have to come in to work a few hours late?

I am trying to get another job and one of the jobs I applied for is having testing for the qualified applicants on a Thursday morning. I usually start work at 7 and the test is at 9 for 2 hours. I don't know if I should try and come up with some excuse in advance for why I need to be gone until at least 11am or if I should just call in sick. Any ideas?

I would just tell the truth.  If they can't understand your situation, then they are not going to be understanding in the future if they hire you.

tell them ur stuck in the traffic coz der is an accident! or just call in sick would be better coz u wont be there long anyways so use it all up.

You can say your back has been hurting and you want to go to the dr to make sure there is nothing wrong with it.  A dr wouldnt do anything about it unless its a herniated disk or something major so you wouldnt have proof.  Or you can say you got a flat tire and are waiting for AAA to come fix it.

What about the truth? Would that get you fired?

Maybe you can take a personal day? Can you schedule in a dental appointment if you need one on the same day, that wouldn't really be lying but stretching the truth a bit.

Don't tell them the truth... but don't lie. Tell them a family matter came up and you will be in to work late that day. That would be my response, it's vague, but it's not lying, and at the same time, not telling your boss that you are looking for another job. If you told your boss that you were applying elsewhere and you didn't get picked for this job you are applying for, then it could cause some stress between you and your boss. You may find yourself not treated the same as you used to be. The best time to tell your current boss that you are quitting is after you get the job and give them your 2 weeks notice. Also if your boss found out that you lied to them.. it could cause the same results.

One time, I faked a filling in my tooth came out.  It's common, it's happened before, right?  

But, I agree with the dentist appointment or doctor appointment.  Tell them about it soon.
