  1. AVG

  2. AVG and Avast are both free, I had problems with the new AVG slowing older systems down so changed to Avast but they are both good products.

    avast free - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-...

    avg free - http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti...

I would also get a free firewall usign the link below

  3. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy a spyware killer for years. I have recently added superantispyware. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.0 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

  4. great for getting rid of spy ware

avg by the way if you already have norton on your pc you do already have a good firewall cause I think it is good stopping viruses but it's not a great service when your pc already has a virus. In other words Norton is not great at getting rid of viruses.Sometimes your better of getting rid  of cookies including tracking cookies (which is spy ware or at least acts like it ) of your pc manually.

getting cookies of your pc manually:

    press start> my computer>local disk>documents and settings>administration>cookie folder>delete all>go to recycling thingy>empty trash can

also use the search on your computer thing and look for cookies

  5. AVG Free Edition and Avast home edition are both good.

  6. Avast Antivirus

  7. Most malwares are designed to attack popular

antivirus products (like Symantec, Norton), but since free anti-virus product is much less used, it's capable of fighting the viruses when industry leaders fail.

According to an article by the Washington Post,

Norton Antivirus had one of the worst average response times

for providing virus definition updates based on the worst virus outbreaks,

lagging behind every major competitor, including NOD32, Kaspersky,

Quick Heal, F-Secure, Sophos, Avira, Trend Micro, F-Prot, Panda, Protector Plus, AVG, avast!, ClamWin, and McAfee.[6]

Symantec/Norton Live update are responsible for BSOD ( Blue Screen Of Death )

for millions of PC in China

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4. It now protects against spyware, rootkits,

and other forms of nonvirus malicious software. Best of all, it's free for personal use.

  8. Download and run free Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from http://www.geeksjunction.com to check your computer for all kinds of threats.
