im trying to find an hd camcorder that has awesome sound, but for under $1,000

The Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9 are all fine camcorders... and they all have an external mic jack to connect external mics - no camcorder had "awesome" built-in audio... and these camcorders are the cheapest high definition (HD) with full manual audio control. All four are miniDV tape based units and can do 1080i HDV.
