  1. ok you want to go for more on the 800 end. i would try specialized or even marin and santa cruz. better bikes are more $$$  so i would go with them. I work in a bike shop

  2. to be honest if you are buying a 800 bike, its not a extreme high eng bike, therefore dont buy a santa cruz or specialized. ther reason for this is that santa cruz lowend bikes arnt that great of value which you can get.

    also specailized frames are built by giant, so if i were you i would go giant you will get much better value for money.

    the reason for this is that giant sell directly to the distributor.

    where specialized must buy from giant then sell to the distributor therefor makign the bikes more expensive, most biek shops will tell you this is c**p but its not its how they make there money, there pay minimal and you pay more for the brand.

    id go a giant for sure you can pick up decent giant frames in teh section which are great value for money.

    cheers=]

  3. Well, it's best to be fitted for a mountain bike at a good bike shop. there are many good brands trek, schwinn, Kona. etc. Most bike shops carry brands that are very similar in quality for the money your willing to spend. But for a good all around bike, mostly for off-road, not for competing, or racing, since it would have to be either a mountain bike or a road bike in this instance, would be a hard tail, front suspension mountain bike with not too aggressive of a tread. If the tire are too nobby they will wear out on the road, if they are too smooth they will slip in the grass or dirt. You can tighten the suspension for road and loosen it for trails. You might want to consider a totally hard bike with no shocks at all if the terrain is pretty level. Many mountain bike enthusiasts ride full suspension mountain bikes when they really don't need to. The problem with full suspension is that it wastes way more energy pedaling. For about 625 aus. you can buy a good brand front suspension mountain bike with disk brakes and have money left over for a helmet and other stuff. You can buy a stiff bike without disk brakes with just as good components for much less.
