Whats a good place/idea for a xmas night out?

Hi,

i'm looking for suggestions for our works xmas night out. We've had a few of the usual suggestions i.e. meal at the local hotel/pub, disco at the local hotel function room etc etc. as well as a few more unusual ones like a James Bond theme night in Murrayfield stadium.

Can you suggest anything that would be a bit different?

We are on the south side of Edinburgh if that helps at all and there would probably be between 20 and 40 of us.

hire a castle between the lot of you

Sing xmas carols and give the money to charity. Volunteer to cook a meal and/or help serve one for charity. Do a can good collection at whatever you do, admission is a can or two, and use it to replace stock at a food bank. Their supplies are usually depleted after xmas.

Don't know what is in Edinburgh, but there are lots of mystery dinner theaters, old English theaters, train tours around here.

How about finding a neighborhood that is totally decorated and taking your group to look at Christmas lights. Maybe even rent a horse drawn carriage, decorate it and go look at the lights. That is one thing people love to do during the holidays.

Take a trip to Newcastle. Plenty of venues for a good night out. Overnight stay and shopping at the Metrocentre before heading for home

you should have dinner a nice one and  then go and watch a really good movie just have a fun time and try to have a social time as well

Really hard to think of something special to do in Edinburgh as you're a bit spoiled by the social scene throughout the year anyway.

How about hiring a mini bus and getting yourselves out of the city for the night - Glasgow, Stirling etc?  

Or if anyone is a bit flush you could check out the cheap airlines and go somewhere in Europe.

we did a day trip to amsterdam from edinburgh last xmas was great early flight out late flight back bus into amsterdam takes 20mins, easy jet cheap if u book early and lots of drink at the airports to keep u entertained.  Great xmas day out.

id personally, if i lived in edinburgh, go to one of the following:

1. Le monde

2: Ricks : fab cocktails

3. Opal Lounge: again fab cocktails esp the one that uses hoegaarden as a mixer!

hire a pub or hotel function room  and have a fancy dress party.  on the invitation tell people what they've to come dressed as.
