  1. Taco Bell

    I was kidding, yes.

  2. well good luck!

I have lived here for over a year and still am looking for the perfect taco.. its pretty had because the mexican restaurants here are nothing compared to the onces in the u.s for example..

Its only a vacation, try eating some food typical here in Spain. I´m sure it will be worth it.. ! try Paella, Patatas Bravas, Pollo a Lást ) etc..

    Take care..

  3. I hope you're kidding. hehehe...

While few and far between, you can find Mexican restaurants in the big cities but you'll likely find the the tacos very different from those you're used to at the Mexican restaurants where you live. I'm pretty sure they're not like the Taco Bell tacos, the shells usually being soft/pliable and not hard/brittle. Take that away and what do you have?

I think Taco Bell no longer exists in Spain. They used to but I think they left at about the same time as Wendy's.

I think you can find "Old El Paso" brand American-ized taco shells at "The American Stores" in Madrid you're there so you can make your own. Web: http://www.theamericanstore.es/ .

Hopefully you'll "discover" Spanish food as your new favorite. Have a nice vacation!

  4. You'd be better off going to a supermarket and getting the fixin's... The mexican restaurants in Spain are few, far between and rarely good. Most (tho' not all) mexican or tex-mex type restaurants make everything, tacos included with wheat flour tortillas. (Which evidently doesn't give 'em that yummy mexican corn flavour...).

You can find "Old El Paso" (or Casa Fiesta) products in most large supermarkets (for ex. Hipercor, Mercadona, Supersol).

These aren't really mexican products (I think their offices are in California), but they'll do in a pinch...

As to restaurants it is a question of blind luck... If you go to one, ask if the chef is mexican (that is the only way to get a decent taco), if he isn't, keep on looking!

Also depends on what cities you'll be in... You'll have better luck in Madrid or Barcelona, both in quality and quantity.

By the way Taco Bell is a chain that only exists in the States, you won't find anything at all in that line of fast food over here in Spain.

  5. There are Mexican restaurants in Spain, but from my experience they mostly have flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas as ingredients [a fair number of Europeans see corn/maize as fit for 'cattle feed' only...they don't know what they are missing].

In Spain, the word "taco" has different meanings than it does in Mexico.

    "tacos" means "cuss/swear words"

"No echar tacos" means "don't use foul language"

A "taco" can also mean "a wad or a fistfull" of something.... "Un taco de billetes " can mean a wad of currency"

While you are there, why not enjoy the Spanish cuisine, then have your tacos when you return home.
