i have a 90 minute preschool lesson to teach tommorow. Im fresh out of ideas for the little buddies. My one decent thought was to have a game day with differnt games (musical chairs etc...) and to have medals for the kiddies. If anyone hasany ideas to improve mine or to add to it or better ideas in it of themselves it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks pals.

  2. I agree with others that this is a long time to "teach" in a traditional way.  There is a lot of literature on what is to be considered a "child centered" environment, also called active learning, DAP, constructivism, etc.  I encourage you to read a bit of this to gain some understanding of your role as more of a model and a guider.  When you have games such as musical chairs the play has a goal that is determined by "the winner"  Sometimes you like to engage in things just for fun dont you....no score....trying to figure something out.....discover how something works.  Well, just like you would not like to be graded on every attempt to understand something new, so does it go for these children....actually more!!  This time in development is full of experimenting and "tinkering" with the world around them.  Look into activities that allows the participants the chance to decide a direction for the play and you will be fine.....the kids will be much happier exploring.  An example of this would be block play.  The children are using different shapes and sizes to explore the relation to each other.  If you were there "teaching " them how to construct wht YOU see is the goal then the "TA DA!!"  moment is robbed from them.  You can do this easy with a bit of research and practice.  The secret is that it is actually easier to model than it is to control.  Write me back if you have questions.  Please, dont do musical chairs.  I think its one of the worst games ever for this age!!!

  3. First of all, preschool children don't do anything for 90 minutes. Pick a theme and plan an art activity, read a story, sing a song, teach a finger-play and add appropriate materials to each of the centers in the room. Do some science. If you are doing gardening, for instance, set up a flower shop in the Dramatic Play area. Your game day idea is not very practical and sets little kids up to compete. Trust me, they don't lose well. Why did you wait until today to plan for tomorrow?

  4. get 2 big wheres waldo books or whatever they are called! :P
