  1. Good poem: A good poem is generally emotional in a different way, taking language and making you see common words as something else. This really depends on what the reader thinks, though.

Bad poem: However, there are some things that are almost never good in poetry: weepy angst ridden poems (if you're going to write on this subject, you have to bring something new to the table), forced rhyming (poems don't have to rhyme, and sometimes it detracts from the poem), and cliches (stuff like "her eyes were as blue as the ocean").

Generally, a poem is not something that happens. it takes work and thought to create a good work. Try not to get discouraged and always look for new inspiration.

  2. everyone is different, but the kind of poems I love are ones that feel like your in that persons place. Or if the poem is really different. Like Edgar Allen Poe. His stuff was so different and interesting I thought.

but as far as a bad poem? maybe if its way to hard to understand. thats really about it.

    hope I answered alright.

what do you think of my poem?   http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  3. A good poem is one you like; a bad poem is one you don't.  But, remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Some people don't like Shakespeare, but others do.  Some people don't like sing-song greeting card verses, while others find them beautiful.  Good and bad are opinions, not objectively defined categories, and your opinion of a particular poem is true for you and you alone, whether you find it good or bad.

  4. I don't know the party-line, I can only speak from a personal view point.

A poem to me is good, when it uses words and phrases in an extra-ordinary way.  When the subject of the poem makes me look at the world in a different light.  I like to hear a rhythm, and (dare I say) some rhyming within it- not end-line, clanging rhymes - just subtle internal rhyming, or scattered rhyming.

A bad poem to me is - doggerel (without humour), angst-ridden weeping and wailing about lost love, emo, which could be in category two, poems which try too hard, poetry with desperate rhyming and poetry which is pretentious and written to show that the writer knows some long words (unless it is funny)
