Question:

Whats a good "theme" for a 14 year old girl's birthday?

Hi. My birthday's the 23rd of this month, and my dad's is the 20th. We usually have a mixed birthday with my family - which is totally fun! (: But this year, I want to invite a couple friends over too. So I have a few questions, "theme" related.

[Note- in the past, my themes were like... based off moves, like Over the Hedge or Madagascar.]

First, for the family party, I usually get napkins and tablecloths with something cute on it - like, as said before, move-based. Any ideas?

Also, I usually spice up my birthday "list" alot, by making it creative. Last year, I made my brother's into a newspaper article; I'm super lost for my own though! Help?

Second, for the friend party, should it be themed? Or is a no-theme party just as fun? Probably a sleepover, with snacks and such; maybe going to the lake. Also - any fun ways to right invitations? Like on a beach ball?

Thanks sooo much!!

I dont wish to spend alot of money, but ANY help you could give me is fantastic!!

Thanks!

-Jackie

  1. im thirteen and i know at my age i dont go to theme parties unless its for younger kids...neway i know all my friends and i throw dance parties if your looking for a girl/guy party;butt if u just want ur gal pals their i would suggest a slumber party...but not just a slumber party at your homee.try finding a hotel with a cheap room price and indoor pool.those parties are always funn.((hint hint:there even more fun if you parents get one room and the b-day girl and friends stay in another...ya kno the connected rooms.))orrr if your not into that there is another good type of party..like a girls night out..go to the movies with your closest friends and eat out and maybe get your parents to let them stay sleep...or find other places in your town to hang out.

    hope these help:D

  2. Hmm.  Seems you like movies; have you seen anything recently you really liked?  Something that you could possibly tie-in to both your family's party and your friend's get-together/sleepover?  (That'd save a bit for you, with only one theme to work with.)

Of course, you could always theme-up your family shindig and leave your friends party as a chill lakeside get-together with a cupcake-cake (easily made -- just frost all of the cupcakes at the same time so they stick together -- or bought from your supermarket).

Or, you could combine the two, with a themed family party that kinda bleeds into your friends party.  With a beachy-type party, you could do a Mama Mia! theme, with folks dressing up in 80's retro (easily bought at thrift stores) when they're not in bathing suits, ABBA and other retro-y music (*someone's* gotta have ABBA cd's, or songs on an mp3 player you could jack into), Greek style grilling (lemon juice, oregano, salt, pepper & olive oil is a cheap and tasty marinade; tomato/cuke salad, grilled potatoes and orzo/pasta salad could work and keep the cost low, look up other recipes if you need more ideas) and a cake/cupcake cake decorated to look like a beach (or just covered in "glitter" sprinkles)....

Have fun, and Happy Birthday to you both!!!
