  1. Prego!! Add some browned hamburger or ground turkey Even Italian sausage and presto its pretty darn good...

  2. With Italian sausage

Chop 1 onion, mince 4 (or more) cloves of garlic, chop 1 red and 1 green pepper, open a can of sliced olives and drain.  Remove sausage from casings (you can use either sweet or hot).  Heat a deep skillet or pot with about one tablespoon of oil, over medium heat.  Add onions, garlic, and peppers.  Cook until soft.  Add sausage and cook through, making nice and crumbly.  Add 2 large (28 oz) cans of tomato sauce, 1 large can (28 oz) undrained diced tomatoes, 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste, and the can of sliced olives.  Mix.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low and simmer one to three hours.  There is no need to add seasonings to this recipe, as there are a lot of spices in the sausage.  Serve over angel hair pasta along with some crusty Italian bread.

Gia Russa makes an excellent marinara sauce.

  3. I like Newmans Own.  Thats pretty much the only spaghetti sauce I buy, the sausage and pepper flavor.

    Makes me crave spaghetti.

  4. We use the HEB store brand regular spaghetti sauce and its much better than the name brands at half the price. I get lots of compliments on my spaghetti and meatballs and I never tell that its store brand sauce. Also there is a box mix made by Kraft that has the spaghetti and the powder mix inside and you add a can of tomato paste and ground meat if wanted and its really, really good. It is usually with the box mac and cheese in the stores. Sometimes its hard to find, but definitely worth finding. I keep it as a staple in my pantry for quick meals and unexpected company. Its delicious.

    2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves of garlic, crushed and chopped finely

2 small tins or 1 large tin tomato paste

1 teaspoon each basil and oregano (not seen in the movie, but useful nonetheless)

1lb/500g meat, either cooked sausages, sliced, or meatballs

2 tablespoons dry red table wine

    1/4 cup sugar

    Method

In a large pot or metal casserole dish, heat up the oil over medium heat and cook the garlic.

Add the tomatoes. Cook until soft.

Stir in the tomato paste, basil and oregano.

Add the meat. Stir until the meat is thoroughly coated.

Stir in the wine and sugar.

Reduce heat to low to medium-low and let simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Ladle over large bowls filled with cooked spaghetti, toss in each bowl and serve.
