My friends and I are seeing Hairspray but we don't know where to eat lunch. Any good suggestions for lunch. We are all 13 so something for our age. Maybe a themed restaurant? Thanks! (also could you give links and your reviews of the place if you have been there)

  1. I was gonna suggest Carmine's but shoots there was this really fun themed restaurant........jeez I can't remember the name of it. All the servers dress up as stars from the past and sing and dance and the food is really good. Maybe it was called Stars. Can't remember.

  2. The food at Carmine's can't be beat and it's not that bad price wise, but as no reservations, it gets so crowded, fear you could miss the show.  I had been recommending Ellen's based on my trips there years ago. After a trip there recently I have to say it was one of the worst afternoons I have spent in a long time, too loud, and food not edible. Themed place across from Ellen's is Mars 2110,  which friends have enjoyed. Bit of a walk, but you can always go to - not Planet Hollywood, but the Rock & Roll Restaurant on 57th St (think it's still there) and saw there was new one at 42nd St.  Also for theme- Jekyl &Hydek but it;s going to be a fast walk or cab ride, as it's on 57th-58th & 6th Ave,

There is an Olive Garden over there, but how boring in NYC.  Get a hold of a Zagats, there are loads of Italian restaurants, oh yes, Puligia's, which are cheap, especially for lunch.

  3. Mangia e Bevi is a lot of fun.  Everyone gets a tambourine, they play music and the waiters dance with you.  They serve Italian food, and it's not at all expensive - pastas, salads, sandwiches, chicken and fish entrees are usually less than $10.  Read the menu and see if it appeals to you.  It's close to your theatre, but you must have reservations.

Ellen's Stardust Diner on Broadway and 51st Street - American diner food cooked nicely, but expensive compared to prices of the same food two blocks away.  Lots of fun here, though.  The waitresses are dressed like teens from the 50's, they play 50's music and sing.  It's very loud, so if you're planning to hold many conversations, this isn't the place.

Vnyl on 51st and Ninth Avenue is loud, but it's inexpensive, the food's good and it's a lot of fun.  Look over their menu:
