Ikea is awesome idk where you are but they have alot of locations if you could go into one of there stores you would be amazed and get lots of ideas!

Even if you don't buy the furniture, it'll give you some inspiration that's soooo not what your parents would've bought.

There's a company that sells really modern furniture but it's not that cheap...Design Within Reach.  There are a bunch of stores all over the US where you can test out the furniture before you buy them.  Good luck designing and furnishing your apartment!  Use some bright colors on the walls!
