Right now he's got gravel that is too big for him but I'm thinking about switching it to my old marble collection I had when I was younger. Would that be a good idea? Thinkin bout buying sand at a later date.

  1. Use anything that will be easy for water changes. I used those flattened glass things that sort of  look like squished marbles for a while in our African Clawed Frogs' tank. I don't think I would use sand, the frogs can ingest it when they eat and I don't know how good that would be for them. Mine used to look like they were clapping their hands when I went to feed them. That movement might stir up the sand. I found it easiest just to have a mix of short and tall plants in their pots just hanging out in the tank without gravel. I think the frogs liked having something in the tank to hide behind and swim around. Make sure they have plenty of space to hang out on the tank floor between the plants. You could use plants without pots with weights on them, but in my experience, they never lived as long without gravel.

Oh, a word of warning -- keep the top on the tank. I woke up and went down stairs to find one of our frogs flopping around on the floor all covered with cat hair and dust. Luckily I found him before a cat did -- or was the cat responsible for "helping" him out of the tank? Nobody ever snitched. LOL (The frog was fine -- lived another 5-6  years after that.)

Good luck with your frogs! I hope they live a long happy time with you!
