  1. If you go to hockeyshot.com they have good shooting boards that will withstand anything, and also come with 20 pucks, stickhandling balls, flypucks, and a stick weight. I think that even though it is a bit more pricey, it is definately worth it. I just got mine a week ago, and already i can see my shot getting better and i am getting stronger. I spend at least an hour each day out there shooting, and it is really beneficial. That is what i would do, actually, its what i did do!!

  2. I'd experiment. I know thats not what you want to hear, but anything could work (some plastics could, some couldn't)

    Good luck.

  3. I have been selling shooting pads from my garage for several years. If you want to get one from me, email me with your info, and I will send you one via UPS. Mine are 24" x 48" x 1/4" they are made from HDPE, a very slick plastic. I sell them for $50 plus shipping costs.....

  4. if you have room and can afford it:

    http://www.hockeyshot.com/Hockey_Shootin...

(if you didn't get the entire link it's ok, just click on it, should take you to the website)

if not then get a plastic matt (like what you see in a garage to keep oil from dripping from an automobile onto the floor)

you could also use cheaper sticks - preferably with an ABS blade which is what most people use off-ice, so the garage floor's wear and tear doesn't "hurt" as much. but only use these with a roller hockey puck or ball. plus it will be good training, those sticks tend to be heavier than those used on the ice.

  5. Plexie glass is great.  Just go to home depot and get a section of it.  they also have synthetic ice now but that's probably really pricey.

  6. i use a 4x4 piece of plywood in my backyard and its works great. I've never noticed any damage to my stick and the board has been in good shape for years. Just be careful when you lean it against a wall because it could morphe if it is left leaning on its side for too long.

Also during the winter you can freeze water on it and make it more realistic.

    Hope this helps.

  7. take a piece of paneling or thin glossy wood lay that down and make it your shooting lane. you will be able to shoot pucks off that and not run your stick then maybe prop up a thick blanket maybe on a close line you could even paint the net and or a goalie in the blanket...just a thought.

J.O's in brainstorm mode right now!!!
