  1. Kodak: former camera market leader: nowadays I barely hear about them except for supplying sensors for other manufactures.

Samsung: recent camera market contender that offers fairly decent products considering its late entry.

Sony: makes camera with all the high-tech and gimmicky features you ever wanted in a digital camera. Sure, the touch screen's nice, but i doubt the usefulness of the smile shutter. Face detection is also worse than other manufactures.

Olympus: Been in the market for quite a few years. Never managed to steal the spotlight from Canon, however.

All in all, A good camera would be those from Canon, the powershot line. Canon has been in the market for over 50 years and it truly shows in the craftsmanship of their products. Anyways, hoped this helped =)

  2. It depends what kind of camera you are looking at. Every brand has some good and bad cameras. If you are looking at SLRs then probably Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Pentax are good. If you are looking at point-n-shoot, I would first look at Canon, then rest of the brands. Canon makes some of the popular point-n-shoots out there, it does not mean that others are bad.

What I would do, as I find a camera, I would look at some reviews. Best place to look at camera reviews is dpreview.com

  3. I'd definately recommend CANON for what sounds like you needing a Point and Shoot digital camera with video capabilities.
