  1. There is no one way.  There are so many "tricks of the trade" in genealogy that you will learn as you go on how to search.  None work every time in every case.  Your method of searching will vary with each individual and is guided by what you find or don't find.

  4. family bibles, talk to older family members, go to the library to the history room (in town near where your family is from), court records like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, land titles.  Then you can also find alot looking around on the internet using sites like ancestry.com, familysearch.or, myvitalrecords.com or just looking on internet search engines.
