  2. You cannot learn martial arts properly from a website, book, or DVD.  It's like trying to learn how to play football or perform open heart surgery on a website.

  3. www.judoinfo.com

if your into grappling at all this site would help you out.

www.fighttips.com has about the best tips for martial arts with a whole forum of fighters and martial artist to help you out. say chexmix323 send you.

  4. There's no such thing. If you want to learn ANY martial art, you're going to have to take lessons in person.

  5. Youtube has step by step learning Videos

  6. As mentioned, trying to learn martial arts from a website is a bad idea. Videos and the like are supposed to supplement training, not form its basis - especially for beginners, its essential to have an instructor present.

Unlike a DVD/book/video, they can correct your mistakes (which otherwise you'll continue making and thereby entrain bad habits) and modify their advice depending on your particular situation: bodytype, experience, strength etc. Not to mention you could potentially injure yourself and/or others if there isn't an experienced eye supervising.

That isn't to say DVDs/videos etc are useless, but I find they work best when you're refining what you already know.

Once you've started training somewhere, then I would suggest the following sites (this is in reference to BJJ, the style I'm most familiar with):

http://video.google.co.uk/videosearch?q=... (BJJ vids by Rowan Cunningham)

http://www.youtube.com/user/uchideshi (BJJ vids by Roy Dean)

http://www.aesopian.com/ (Excellent free instructional tips by a purple belt)

http://www.grapplersguide.com (Grapplers Guide - great resource, but it does require paid membership)

I've found all of those useful in refining my technique, so can happily recommend them to others (again, presuming you're already attending class).

  7. IMO you can't really learn a martial art from a web site.

You might be able to learn a Kata, but the basic moves need to be taught face to face so that corrections can be made..

The exception that I might make would be in learning how to use a weapon that does not require much specific alignment or some types of Tai Chi.

The big problem with learning from a web site is that you are not sure whether or not the person demonstrating the form is doing it properly.
