My mom and I are having a difficult time teaching my 9 year old sister fractions. She's to the point of tears because its frustrating for her. My sister has homework on equivalent fractions (i.e. 5/10=1/2). Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

they teach you fractions very well! once you get to the page, just type in whatever kind of fractions you want on the side, then press search and click on the one you want. Hope that helps!

In addition, try getting or making some fraction circles.  Its pretty simple, just get a bunch of round circles the same size, and you divide them into equal parts... halves, fourths, eighths, sixteenths, tenths, fifths, etc.  And have her use those to really see how the fractions are equal.  An alternative to the circle (which can be difficult to divide evenly) is a rectangle, you get a rectangle of card stock, and divide it in to even sections and use it as described above.  Their are also commercial products that can be used in much the same way.  It just really helps to be able to actually "see" that 5 tenths is the same size as 1/2, and 3/6, etc.
