Since this question is in the LA section I feel I need to ask, do you realize that neither of these two places are in Los Angeles? They are both on the central coast and about 3 hours away from LA. It's a lovely area though and I have vacationed there myself many times (I live in Los Angeles). As a matter of fact, I just came back from a camping trip to Morro Bay which is north of Pismo.

Trails.com has lots of rental info for many different areas (including rentals by owners which can be less expensive)
