Question:

Whats a good white wine for cooking chicken cordon bleu?

i normally prefer semi- sweet wine, so i have no idea what to get, any suggestions? also i dont want to spend over $10.00 a bottle.

  1. You should never cook with any wine you wouldn't drink. Don't believe non-experts. Go for a good dry white.


  2. Any wine that you will drink is great for cooking so find one you like and use it.

  3. any dry white wine - don't believe the chefs any wine will do

    - sweet may not taste as good - cheap as possible and buy the good stuff to drink! i've even made it with cider.

Holland House cooking wine.  Cost under 5 bucks.  Screwtop, will last several months.  Unless, you plan to deglaze, then I would go with a good white.  Chenin Blanc's would be a good choice.  Of course, Spatlese's - great for drinking before cooking, while cooking, with cooking.  Love those Spatlese's.

  5. white wine is good. goya actually makes one in the supermarkets its only 3.00.

    marsala will work to...also in supermarkets for about 4.00 by holland house

Find yourself a cheap bottle of wine to cook.  Don't ever spend high dollar for wine to cook with.  Once you cook with wine, the intricate detail of wine will be gone, and when you mix with food, there is absolutely no difference between expensive and cheap wine.  The only exception to that is if you were to make a nice Cabernet reduction sauce for steak, in which case the quality of the wine matters.

    Otherwise, use a cheap wine.  In your case, Chardonnay, which is dry and somewhat acidic, is actually better than somewhat sweet wine.  If you want something sweeter, consider Sauvignon Blanc.  I would not use anything sweeter, such as Riesling, because once you reduce the wine sauce, it will become even sweeter.  Get something less than $5/bottle on the clearance rack.
