Question:

Whats a good wind speed for sailing?

My dad recently inherited a sail boat and has a past of sailing. I, however, aren't as lucky to have that knowledge. I go out sailing with him every chance I get and check the wind forecast before I call him to sail.

The only problem is... I don't know what is a strong enough wind for sailing in MPH not in knots....

So I'm hoping to find out what a good speed is for a macgregor 21 boat. I like a decent heel too :)

  1. 10-12 knots is a good wind for a MacGregor 21. A knot is 1.18 miles per hour. In that wind the waves will just be starting to roll over or white cap. It will push the boat well, h**l some and not over come the boat. Some larger boats need more wind.
