  1. A human being  is symbiotic collection of a large number of microbes and a vertebrate host of moderate intelligence. The host is usually unaware of the microbes which far outnumber the cells in his or her body and consider themselves to be the sole resident of their body.  The relationship is however a truly symbiotic one, since both the vertebrate and microbial need each other to survive.

The host can also have pathogenic parasites present, but in a healthy human, these are usually kept in control by the body's defense system and by the presence of the symbiont colonies whom invading microbes would have to displace in order to gain access to the vertebrate's resources.

It is interesting to note that humans often consider them selves to be the center of the universe in spite of overwhelming evidence that Earth is not anywhere near the center of the known universe.

Human beings reproduces and spread rapidly, and while capable of surviving in a compatible  manner with their host, they are most often pathogenic to  the planet Earth.  Fortunately, Earth's defenses are usually successful in keeping human populations under control and due to the many frailties of a vertebrate life form, the parasite is expected to die off in one of the periodic severe global climate changes Earth has on a cyclical basis.

Of course, this is only one man's opinion. :-)
