  1. MAGNET SCHOOL IS A PLACE FOR smart kids

  2. A magnet school is a specality school for students who are of above normal intelligents. A charter school normally is a school with a philosophy that is different from that of a school district. A magnet school is usually pubic and a charter school is affiliated with a school district but the school does not have as many benifits as a regular public school. For magnet schools students would be recommended by a teacher to be tested and, the student would have to apply for a magnet school then it would be up to the student and the parent if the student would like to attend. A charter school usually has their own set of standards and it would vary from school philosophy to school philosophy.

  3. I think it all depends on the state or city that you live in. I honestly don't know what the difference is between the two. But I know some in our area specialize in arts such as drama and another is computer science. Your question is good and now I want to know how they are different in my city.

  4. each school district has different rules and regulations about charter and magnet schools. generally though, they all have a few things in common:

both magnet and charter schools are part of a public school system. neither can charge tuition and they have to follow most safety and health regulations. however, they are not bound by the same rules of regular public schools. they can choose a different curriculum, hire non-accredited teachers, and create different schedules (year-round, all day, etc.). in the chicago area they can NOT hire unionized teachers which means they have more liberties about how much they pay their staff, benefits, etc.

each magnet and charter school can also choose who gets into their school. generally they have to reserve a certain amount of their enrollment for neighborhood children but it's usually lower than most regular schools. families have to apply and sometimes there are academic requirements for students. however, this does not mean that they are reserved schools for 'genius' children. generally, if you are looking for more advanced programs for your child, you need to find a program for gifted children and your child will have to pass an iq or other academic assessment. usually magnets and charters do NOT require such iq testing.

there are definite benefits to such schools, especially if they match how your child learns best. however there are also problems with them too. the quality of teachers may vary, they may be very hard to get into, and in some areas, they may take away precious funding that might have otherwise gone to regular public schools. for your child it's best to find a school that matchest their skills and learning style as well as your needs as a family. good luck and i hope you find a great school!

  5. go to medical school

  6. A magnet school is a school that didn't have enough kids enrolled in it (in other words, was not a max. capacity) so offers a specilized program to attract kids to that school. Most of these programs are academic-oriented, so to qualify for them, a kid submits an application, and if the kid looks like he/she would be a good addition to the school, he is accepted. If not, its no big deal.

A charter school is a public school that operates without many of the public school system's regulations. They are publically funded and  open to anyone. Instead of being governed by rules and regulations, they are only accountable for the academic results. The path they take to get to these results can vary. Also, the quality of charter schools can vary widely. As public schools, they cannot charge tuition. However, there may be a waiting list to get into the school.
