Whats a monologue?

I already know that a monologue is a piece of oral or written literature spoken by one person who exposes inner thoughts and provides insights into his or her character. But for example...in the story, "The Governess" our teacher told us to write a monologue in the point of the governess...does he mean like after the whole story was done...or write a monologue in an event DURING the story? +10 points

  1. Well, none of us here can read your teacher's mind.  But if he didn't specify, I think you'd be safe writing a monologue from her point of view anywhere in the story.  If there's some moment in the story at which you find yourself saying, "I know exactly what she's thinking right now," that might be the perfect moment for your monologue.  On the other hand, if you can picture her at the end of the story looking back over all the action and delivering that kind of monologue, then that's what you should write.

  2. no a monologue is a (about a paragraph sometimes more) of yes the inner thoughts/feelings that a character is experiencing but they dont have any other characters talking back in them (thats dialogue) its only one person. like in the play i just did (Bang Bang You're Dead) there is a monologue in the middle of what josh (the main character) is experiencing after he just killed his parents

the script is free to look at on the website so i sujest looking at it to get an idea its in about the middle of the play

just type in bang bang youre dead on the yahoo search bar and its the first one that comes up (click the nondownloadable version)

  3. It could be either, is my guess.  Monologues usually take place during a story; the character can be talking to another character, to the audience, or to themselves.  I think what your teacher really wants is to see your insights into the character and your writing ability.

  4. in a play, when one person says a long speech

examples of monologues are soliloquies and asides

a soliloquy is when there is no one on stage but the speaker

an aside is when there are other characters on stage but they are not participating in the dialog
