  1. Next you're going to say, "What's a brain?"

A highschool is a school in the sky, idiot.

  2. There is a confusion of terms between those from UK and the USA.   In the USA high school is usually between grades 9 -12 and students who reside in a school district are required to attend a "public high school" until they graduate, reach a certain age or "can not progress"

In the UK  a public school is a school that anyone can attend but they are not required to attend. Tuition is charged. In effect an English public school would be considered a "private school" in the usa.   Private schools in UK are altogether different.  Attending a private school (of which there are very few) has reqirements based on your ancestory

Only the children of the elite and titled can go there like dukes, earls, counts, princes etc however this type of school is rapidly fading away as most perfer to attend the better "public schools"...note in an English "public school" there is no manditory attendance or residence requirement.

If this confuses you it seems to confuse lots of people.

The English school system is more complex than the US system.  The US public school system with mandatory attendance and local school districts was created as a reaction to the previous system in which education was only for the wealthy and titled.

  3. A high school is where teens attend grades 9-12 and then graduate and get a diploma.

  4. in the us we go to a upper school for 4 years before being allowed either to continue our education at our expense, or going to work. they have different grades, from 9-12. 9th graders are called freshmen, 10th graders are called sophomores, 11th graders are called juniors, and 12th graders are called seniors.

  11. its a place where people go from grades 9th-12th for their finally years of mandatory school

  13. Depends where you live. In the US it is the last 4 years of school. In the UK it's more commonly ages 11-18 - but many if not most schools in the UK don't use the term. It's more common in Scotland.

  17. its where drugs, s*x, drinking, house parties are, and where pregnant teens go to get their education

  18. High school in the USA is what you call prep school or public school in Britain. Generally, most high schools are 4 years, from grades nine through twelve, and a diploma is earned at graduation at the end of the fourth year, provided that the student has acquired enough credits and has successfully passed the exit exam which is required in most states.

It's also possible for adults over 18 years of age to earn the equivalent of a diploma, which is called a GED. Most people who do this are people whose education was interrupted or stopped in some way, for a wide variety of reasons. This is one of the more common ways for girls who get pregnant as teens to earn their diplomas and complete their education- and it's a necessity if they plan on attending college ( what you call university in the UK) or entering certain professions.

Interesting question- I am a long time YA user, and I haven't seen many of these on here. Hope that helps.

  19. An institution which provides all or part of secondary education. High school can also be the point in life for many students where they mature and develop a deeper sense of understanding about themselves and the people around them. Alternatively, some students will undergo this transitional stage later on in life when they enter college or university, although this is usually a continued progression that originates in high school.
