  1. Many people mistake watermill (on the side of house) for a windmill.  Check out the explanations for both in the wikipedia links below and see if it helps.

  2. Decoration.

  3. A fast trip to insanity.  Those things make noise!  Older ones squeak to where even the dogs avoid them.  Modern ones have eliminated much of the squeak, but that hum, which is pleasant at first, gets  gets on your nerves if you must be around them constantly.  Bigger ones have a giant swoosh sound.  They vibrate which would make the house shake.  If the climate has cold, wet weather, ice builds up on one side of the vanes which makes the whole thing super wobble from being unbalanced until the ice falls off.

Hopefully your book is a science fiction for the future and by then the problems have been worked out including the battering of all flying animals.  And there will be a way to make the wind blow constantly, because right now it relies on the weather.  So by then they will have  name for the devices.......maybe home wind powered generators.

  4. mason would this "Windmill " have anything to do with Generating Electricity............????????????????

  5. If you mean a windmill next to a house, it's called a windmill. If you mean a windmill coming out of the side of a house, I think it's called tornado damage, because I've never seen one put there intentionally.

  6. do you mean a weather vane, some times they have a windmill on them, with the directions...or it could just be a windmill..good luck..
